What has BuddySlim’s Community done for you???

Sitting here on Monday morning at 7:40am trying to start my week off in the right direction.  Part of my weekly/daily goals include blogging more…all aspects of blogging, writing them, reading them, and more importantly, commenting on those I do read.

With that, I’ve looked back at some of my blogs.  For the most part, I just take it as a personal journal and give some update on how my week has gone or post something that is going on with me.  I think this week, I’d like to write some blogs (yeah, more than just this one) that will inspire some chatter and back and forth comments.  I did the blog about what inspires you not too long ago and that was pretty well received.

So….as the title of this blog asks, “What has BuddySlim’s Community done for you???”

Let me answer my own question first.  I do suppose that’s only fair to do.

For me, BuddySlim has kept me going for a long time now.  BS has given me an entirely new set of friends from around the country and around the world that I would have not otherwise had.  Not just people I email, but people who have truly become friends that I share a special bond with.

Along with BS I have found my weight loss challenge team called The Rockstars.  These Rockstars are a group of people who on a daily and weekly basis, set out with support, comfort, jokes, personal stories, and just general help for one another in the weight loss journey.  It also has a competitive edge to it making it more of a sporting fun type of thing as well.  It is really because of the team of Rockstars that I have stuck with this for so long.  I may have logged on here once in a while trying to loose weight for the recipies and to blog every now and again, but The Rockstars are what truly helped me to keep going for the long run.  Now I will just not give up and feel I’ve become unstoppable.

That is basically what the BS Community has done for me….I’d love to hear from others about what BS has done for you….I think it’ll be interesting to hear people’s stories.

Reasons that inspire you…

To write a blog, put a post on the forum, not eat junk food, eat healthy food, be nice to people, lend a hand to somebody, smile at somebody, get up in the morning…and so much more.

Everyday, there are things we do in our lives and reasons we are inspired to do them.  Weather it’s that you get inspiration from somewhere within yourself and you can’t identify it, or that it’s directly from your wife, husband, children, or friends.

People in life sometimes need inspiration to get through the day, and sometimes people get up and inspire others and that’s how they make it through their day.  I like to think of myself  as a little of both.

When I set out on this life-changing journey (and belive me, it has been very life changing) to loose some weight I needed some big inspiration.  In the grand scheme of things I didn’t need to loose too much weight to make myself happy and get back on track, but I did need to learn how to eat properley on a daily basis.  Yeah, I can put together a wold-wide TV broadcast with no worries, but when it came to picking broccoli over french fries as a side dish, I needed a bit of a kick in the butt and a bit of inspiration/education.

Now, I make proper choices on a daily basis for myself in what I eat and I don’t even think of what I’m doing…it’s finally become second nature so to speak.  I do allow myself once in a while to have a treat of the foods I used to eat (otherwise you’ll really binge and it’ll be bad).  What I find now though, is when I do eat fries, I can’t eat as much as I used to.  When I have a greasy burger, I don’t feel as well as when I eat a piece of grilled chicken.  So, now I have learned that eating proper foods makes me feel better and helps me to have a better day overall.

I got my initial inspiration from staring a contest with my brotherin law’s .  We all had some weight to loose so with some major financial inspiration we set out on our journey.  Afterall, money kinda makes the world go-round.  We all put up $500.00 USD that if we did not make our goal weight we would loose.  Those that did make the goal weight would win the money.  If you made your goal, you also kept your money.  I am happy to say all 4 of us made the goals we set for ourselves and everybody kept their money.  The second leg of our journey is a maintaining goal.  We need to maintain our weight loss through August 1st and we have other financial inspiration behind this part of the contest.  All in all, it’s been actually pretty fun.

Along my way, however, I have gained a lot of new inspiration.  I gained inspiration from my friends here on BuddySlim, and from my team mates in The Rockstars!!!  I had a constant source of support and inspiration from everybody in the group on a daily basis.  It helped me to stay focused and now is helping me to contiune on my path of loosing weight, and more importantly, keeping it off.

The Rockstars made me a team leader and I was thrilled about that.  It shows me that now the education I have learned myself can be shared by others.  It also allows me to inspire so many people to keep up their own journeys.

I hope that whatever has inspired people to be here today as a part of BuddySlim, inspires you on a daily basis to keep up your great work and keeps you pushing along your wonderful journey to a better you.

My minor slip-up confession

Well, as the title says…I had a minor slip-up this weekend.  It wasn’t terrible, however, I let myself get carried away.  My wife and I had a friend’s birthday party to go to last night.  It was a surprise 30th.  There was a pretty good amount of non-healthy food there and I hadn’t eaten pretty much all day.  Long day with helping my mother-in-law at her yard sale, taking Salem to the vet for his pill (sidenote, Renee’ and I gave him his pill today, YEAY we are learning how to be kitten parents!!!), and just general other errands.

OK, I digress, back to the party…I was STARVING.  I took some pasta and meatballs (3 small meatballs).  I ate that plate and was still very hungry…so I went back for seconds…this time only 2 meatballs and some pasta.  Again, I was STILL hungry!  3rd trip up I got a half of a turkey sandwich and 2 chicken wings.  I thought…”OK, I haven’t eaten this much in months, I’m done!”  Although, I was still hungry I ignored it for a while.  I had a bottle of water and was doing ok…then I got hungry again so I went for some more pasta.  Well, after that and a very small piece of cake…truly was a very small piece.  I just was not feeling well at all.

I realized that about 2 or 3 months ago when I used to eat poorly all the time and as much as I wanted that maybe I wouldn’t have felt differently, but this time I was caught by surprise.  I really ate myself sick.  All in all I ended up fine, BUT…just to see how my body reacted to me eating more than I probably should have was something I have never experienced.  I suppose in a way it’s a good lesson learned.  I have had such a crazy couple of weeks I’ve not exactly been concentrating on my healthy food intake as much as I should.  This absoutley put me right back on track!

Basically, I did it to myself and was not as much mad as I was amazed.  As I said, a few months ago it would’ve been no big deal for me to eat that many helpings and go on about my night.  Now that I am used to 1. eating healthy and 2. eating proportionally, this was a problem.

The good thing…I did only have one very small piece of cake.  I did only eat a little each time, and I did drink water instead of Coke or something like that….the bad thing, is because of all of the physical work I’d done yesterday my body was hungry but I was not giving it exactly the food I should have.

Congrats Rockstars!!! & Other Stuff…

OK, well…first of all, Congratulations to my Rockstar team members for kicking butt once again and placing 1st on the weight loss challenge.  This is our 3rd time overall and our second week in a row in the number one spot….so I smell a Dynasty???  And we didn’t even have Coach Bill Belichick videotaping the other’s for us…hahaha, sports joke!

Now I have to watch the Celtics tonight as first and foremost, they may win the 17th NBA Championship in the organizations history and secondly, I need to know what kind of a day to expect tomorrow at work.  Here’s my scenairos.  If the Celtics Win tonight, they once again become NBA Champions, I get a new hat tomorrow and go to a parade on Tuesday and have lots of fun.  Also, if they win tonight, I go into work tomorrow to the TD BankNorth Garden and pull out a TON of TV stuff out and pack up.

If they loose, I go in tomorrow and re-set the few items we took out after the last game there.  Then, I think we have another media day of interviews of players and stuff like that.  THEN Tuesday we have another game…hopefully at that point, The Celtics win at home and I get to see it…that would be cool.  If not, we do it one more time Thursday night with another media day Wednesday and then a tear out on Friday!

That’s about it for now…oh yeah, little Salem is eating like a PONY and getting into big trouble all over the house.  I just had to stop writing this blog and come back because I had to put a 2 x 4 board behind my oven where he’s managed to learn to climb in back of…YIKES!

A Kitten in the Family…

Alright, so I know a lot of people here are pet owners, and I know a lot of people also have had the pleasure of having a little kitten around the house at one point.  Well, as many of you know from my prior posts here, my wife and I now own a little kitten named Salem.  When we first adopted him we were told he was 10 weeks old and that he’d eat 3 times a day and we had to bring him back to the Vet by June 25th for a second booster shot and that was that…pretty simple.

Well………not so simple.  Here’s the “real deal” on the first 2 weeks of owning a kitten.

Day 1:  Little guy adjusts to his new home, hides in cute places, lets you pet him a little bit, but then runs away…still to scared to really eat anything.  No big deal, he’ll warm up tomorrow.

Day 2: Little guy seems to be still adjusting, where was he all night last night??? Maybe under the bed, he seems comfy there and seems like that’s his safe spot.  Ok, gutta clean out under the bed today, should’ve planned better.  Oh well, no big deal.  Hey, in all of the cleaning I realize he didn’t eat yet….humm, ok, he’s still scared, no biggie, he’ll eat tonight.

Day 3:  Well, I am just exausted.  After having found the little guy INSIDE my box-spring from my bed I had to actually take it right off the metal bedframe so he doesn’t hurt himself by climbing inside again.  THEN this little guy thinks that it’s playtime thoughout the night.  Not only am I in the middle of working a million hours, I am now getting limited sleep….I kinda can’t see straight.  Oh yeah, still…no food???  Umm, maybe we have to call the Shelter.

Jump to Day 7:  Ok, so the Shelter didn’t do much, the little guy still is up all night, now he’s not eating at all, still has energy been to the Vet’s a few times, this is getting expensive, but I want to get him better.

Day 10:  Yeah, still no food, still finds places to hide, still not better, still worried, still havent’ slept, still have to go to work….uuuugggghhhh….will I ever sleep again???  What will a human baby be like if a kitten is this much work

Day 12:  FINALLY he is on some medication that is helping him to eat, but now he eats every 2 hours it seems…how does one little guy go from not eating to eating like I own a HORSE!!!  Oh yeah, for some reason he STILL thinks that 4am is PRIME playtime!!!  Well, at least he’s playfull again.  Oh yeah, and those pills he has to take, which we have to give….IMPOSSIBLE to do….ugh.  Whoever said this will be easy, he will be cute, and we will have all kinds of fun is a liar liar pants on fire!!!  lol

Well, all in all I haven’t slept a full night since we adopted this little

Become A Rockstar!!!

Hello Fellow Buddyslimmers…

If you are new to this site, or just new to the message board portion of the site, let me tell you about a weight loss team.  We are called The Rockstars (Actually, the full name is the Running Rebel Rockstars, but that’s been a while…lol).  Basically what we do is create challenges for one another, support eachother every day both in life and in weight loss.  It has helped me tremendously to loose 20 pounds in 2 months!!!  We do have a few spots left on the team and would love to see some new faces.  You can either comment here or just go to the Weight Loss Forum and look us up.  Currently we are in Rockstars Week 11.  You can also check out our Rockstars Challenge board and our newest Rockstars Bio board as well.  Personally for me I would not have stuck around this site without this team of friends.  I just know it.  It has made my logging into the site just a pleasure and I look forward to it every morning and every evening.  Check us out, come by and say hi.  I’m sure we can help make you laugh, smile, or maybe even cry…either way you’ll make a lot of new friends!

Salem…

Just wanted to update everybody who’s been keeping up with it.  I gave him the extra 30 minutes to just relax, play a bit, and tried giving some food again, and he ate again!!!  This is really two and half times today, so I am VERY HAPPY for my little guy!  If he keeps this up, all of the non-eating will just be a thing of the past.  I also found out he did gain an ounce at the hospital yesterday from the day prior too…so that’s another good thing.

Everybody here has been so sweet with their thoughts and prayers.  I feel lucky and blessed to be part of this community here.  It is much more than a weight loss support site, you truly do gain friends here who help support you through all of life’s ups and downs.  Thank you to everybody!

I tried to post a pic of him here, but I can’t seem to get it to work. Instead, I’m going to put a direct link to a photobucket picture.  Hopefully that’ll work.

NBA Finals & The Kitten (Part 2)

Well, good news on many fronts.  The Celtics took Game 1 from the Lakers.  My work week, although hectic is still fun.  I got to be a fan for a good deal of the game and watch the back and forth action that took place.  It was a very exciting atmosphere, as I’ve said before in posts and blogs, I have worked in television for 11 years and been a part of many interesting shows, this is one of the most fun ever.  Possibly becuase it’s been 21 years since the Celtics have been in the Finals, but either way, I consider myself lucky to be a part of it all.  I uploaded some of my pics and will be sure to post some soon.

And on the Salem front…FINALLY he is eating (a little, but still better than nothing).  He ate a good deal of food yesterday at the hospital and then this morning he did have some breakfast, and a little lunch.  We are supposed to try to feed him every 3 hours if he’ll cooperate, but he doesn’t seem to be eating that frequently.  I just got in from work and tried to give him some fresh food….he didn’t take it.  I’m going to give him another 30 minutes or so and try it again.  So, we are at least on the right track with this little guy.  Finally moving in a positive direction.

Thanks to all of you who commented, wished him well, and gave their thoughts this week for us and Salem.  It’s been tough so it’s nice to have friends who care.

NBA Finals & The Kitten

So, let’s start with the NBA Finals.  It’s actually pretty cool.  Obviously the first day was going to be grueling and confusing.  Today was Day 2 and it was less confusing and certianlly less stressfull.  Overall, it was pretty cool.  Tomorrow is Game 1 so that will add some tension and confusion I am sure, but we have a pretty good idea at least of what’s going to happen and when.

The show I am working on is with NBATV and features Amahd Rashad (spelling?) as the host.  We do a pre-game and post-game show both about a half hour long as far as I’ve been told.

In addition to that, we do these big media press confrences (first one happend today) where anybody and everybody that is with the media gets to ask players questions for about 30 minutes.  It’s pretty crazy and right on the court.  I actually had a lot of fun with it, this was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before, and both the Celtics & Lakers players were very approachable about interviews today.  Who knows how they’ll be once the games actually begin.

My schedule for today was pretty good as well.  I was in at 8am and done by 2:30pm.  Not too much to complain about there.  Tomorrow, I start at 4pm and will be lucky to be done by 2am!!!  Late night for Josh tomorrow.  Followed by and early morning the next day.  It should be interesting and tiring.  The remainder of my week will be the same.

Onto the Kitten….well, little Salem is still not doing so well.  Not sure if or how much I posted after I told you guys we adopted him, but he has not been eating nearly as much as he should.  If there were a group of kitten Rockstars, he’d be doing good.  In real life, he’s not doing so good though because he is not eating as much as he should…actually, not eating much of anything.  We’ve had him to the cat hospital twice now, and the shelter once.  The hospital tells us after the bloodwork they had to do today, that he has low blood sugar and low white cells.  His kidney & liver both checked out ok so that is good.  He is still somewhat playfull so that is also good.  The bad news is, with him not eating like he should he is loosing weight pretty drastically.  When we got him he was 2lbs. 3 oz. now he’s down to 1lbs. 3 oz.  The really bad news is if the anti-biotics we will be getting him tomorrow don’t work and he does not eat, he’ll loose more weight and the doctor says he CAN NOT do that.  If he does, we may have to put him down.  I know we have only had him for a week as of tomorrow, but we are very attached and it makes me very sad to think of loosing him so soon.  Wish us luck with this little guy.  I have been praying that he eats something….anything, just so he now can survive.  We have tried every combination of food we can think of.

Well, I hope everybody is having a good week.  Mine is obviously up and down in many ways.
